Church & Community Hall

Press Release 6 November 2006

Rogiet Church Hall re-opens its doors.

St Marys Community Church Hall, off Green Close, Rogiet officially re-opened its' doors on 4th November 2006 with over 30 visiting for tea and biscuits and a peek at the wonderful newly renovated facility.

With a generous grant from "The Village Hall Renovation Fund" which is administered by Monmouthshire County Council, and with help from Rural Community Action Monmouthshire the hall received over £17,000.00 funding. Generous donations and fund raising bringing in the remaining £12,000.00 required to complete the first stage of the project.

The facility, which was built in 1937as a village hall and used by the local Railway community for over 40 years, was then purchased by St Mary's Church, when it continued to be used for meetings etc., now has disabled access, new kitchen and other renovations which means that all can benefit from it. This will mean that the current users of the hall such as W.I., Mother's Union, Dance Club and the Short Mat Bowls Club can now function in a modernised facility.

The Church Hall Management Committee are hoping that the renovated hall will encourage greater use by community members and are already planning the next phase of development with fundraising for further renovation and fencing off the building and car park.

Mrs Pat Lewis said:

"We are very pleased with the renovation of the hall and proud that after 60 + years of use we can continue to provide somewhere for the community of Rogiet to use as a meeting place, for parties and clubs etc., but now with modernised facilities."

For more information about hiring the hall or if you have ideas for use of the hall please contact Mrs June Williams on 01291 424798 or e-mail: info@caldicotbenefice.org.uk
