This Group started in the mid 1950s and was originally a “Young Wives” group, a junior Mothers’ Union. The Group met in the evenings to cater for those who worked and those who were home all day with young children. Eventually the idea was that they graduated to Mothers’ Union in their more mature years. During the years when the Group was known as the “Young Wives” a fortnightly programme during term time was arranged. Once a year the “Young Wives” festival was held at different Churches in the diocese, when vast numbers would congregate together for a Service followed by sumptuous refreshments and entertainment. However, times changed and things did not go according to plan as when the majority of the Group reached their more mature years and were no longer “Young Wives”, the decision was taken to remain as they were but to change their title – and so the Ladies Guild was born. We continue to meet in the evening, fortnightly, during term-time and we continue to have a varied programme of Speakers and demonstrations on numerous subjects both educational and recreational. We raise much needed funding for Charities and have visited some very interesting places.
If you would like to join us – we would welcome any ladies, young or not so young. Please ask for details of our programme for next year.
