'The Bells of St Marys'

At the present time we have 4 beginners and 7 experienced ringers. The age range of our group at the present is 10yrs to, well lets just say *Senior Citizens*. Younger children from our Friends Of God Club, (FOG Club) are learning to ring during their meetings. We have a broad range of ability, make plenty of mistakes and have lots of fun.

At the start of our meetings, beginners have 30 minutes to practice quite simple tunes and then they join our more experienced group, usually standing beside a ringer to watch what they are doing and follow their ‘music’ sheets. As their experience grows, they gradually start ringing with the more experienced group. Come and have a go, you might enjoy it. The ability to read music is not necessary, but can be useful. Being able to count from 1 to 4 comes in very handy though.

We're members of HRGB (Handbell Ringers of Great Britain) and have been to three S Wales rallies. Believe me, ringing in a tightly packed village hall with over eighty other ringers is an experience not quickly forgotten! We have played in a few Church services, including a wedding, and for the last two Christmases we've played for Carols by Candlelight at Caldicot Castle and we have appeared on MONTV in their Faith in Monmouthshire broadcasts. We also have a spot in their ‘Ringing the Changes’ broadcast.

Come and have a go - you might enjoy it, or you are more than welcome to come to just sit and listen.
