St. David’s Day Service

Sunday 28th February, 2010.

In conjunction with the heritage day at Caldicot Castle, St. Mary’s Church was open to visitors between the hours of 11.30 a.m. and 3.30 p.m. manned or rather “woman-ed” by the Church Ladies Guild.  At 4 p.m. there was a special Churches Together Service led by Led Balloon with both Welsh and English songs.  Rev. Marie led the intercessions; Pastor Jim read one of the lessons and Cynthia told the congregation about Saint David and also informed us of the importance to talking to God all the time.  Around the church were various displays such as wedding dresses and a history of the bell ringing.   Many of the congregation were dressed appropriately: Men and Women in Rugby shirts and some of the women wore the traditional Welsh costume.  The serv ice ended with "Mae hen wiad fy nhadau yn annwyl i mi".  After that refreshments of Welsh cakes and tea and coffee were provided.
