Advent Service of Praise
Sunday 28th November 2010.

A special service to welcome the beginning of Advent 2010 was held on Sunday, 28th November, 2010, in St. Mary’s Church, Caldicot. The music was led by Led Balloon.
The service began with Heine singing the first verse of “O come, O come, Emmanuel” as a solo and then the congregation joined in with the other verses. Children and members of the congregation read special readings. There were reflections on The Jesse Tree by Cynthia,; Swords into Ploughshares by Father David; and on Candles by Father Lyndon. The Blessing was given by Father Jim. Members of the congregation wrote their names on medallions and hung them on the Jesse Tree and they also lit candles. There was a musical interval from Dorothy and Joanna. Refreshments were shared afterwards.

Advent Service 2009

The Advent Service was lead by Led Balloon, on Sunday 13th December at St. Mary's Caldicot. The service began in darkness with the song: O Come Emmanuel. There were readings and poems and Heini sung a beautiful solo. The congregation also lit candles. Refreshments of mince pies and mulled wine were served afterwards. We also celebrated Emily achievement in her music exam.

Christingle Service 2009

This service was held on the Sunday before Christmas. The celebrations were led by Father Lyndon, dressed for the occasion, and the music accompaniment was from Led Balloon and Dorothy on the organ. Children were invited to find the missing items from the Nativity scene which were hidden around the church. Some children took part in the service doing special readings. All the children were presented with a Christingle (the sweets did not last long!). The Christmas tree was by the high altar.

The service was well attended and the congregation were eager to meet the special guest who arrived at the end of the service. Many carrots were consumed.

Carols in the Castle 2009

It was a very cold night but everyone enjoyed the walk from St. Mary’s Caldicot to the Castle led by Diggie. Unfortunately the wind meant that many of the candles were blown out. The service was led by the Churches Together in Caldicot and the music was provided by the Severn Tunnel Band and also Led Balloon.
